What are the ingredients to make theatre? You need a performer, an audience, a story, and a space. Though we can’t stand on our stages or hear the reactions of our audiences, Birmingham Children’s Theatre remains as dedicated as ever to educating, enriching, and entertaining our community. Mixing those theatre ingredients with some out-of-the-box thinking, BCT has created a new performance series entitled the Cardboard Puppet Theatre. Under the visionary guidance of Associate Artistic Director Alex Ungerman, the BCT staff has created a series of original, engaging 10-minute digital puppet shows to be enjoyed by children and families from the comfort of their homes.
We are proud to say BCT is one of the few theatres in the country creating brand new content specifically intended for a socially distanced world. With titles like Anita’s Vacation, Harris the Helper, and Turtle Takes Her Time, the Cardboard Puppet Theatre offers quirky, inventive programming that entertains even as it helps young audiences process these new and uncertain times.
Cardboard Puppet Theatre shows premiere each Wednesday morning on the BCT website and Facebook page. All BCT video content is completely FREE to the public. For those who want to support the future of BCT and the creation of more entertainment like this, donations can be made through the Save BCT Go Fund Me or at www.bct123.org/donate.
