From Snack-time to STEAM-time with Organic Slammers Snacks!

By Jess Searcy April 17, 2020

Turn ordinary snack time into a valuable STEAM time learning opportunity with organic Slammers Snacks

One of the best things about homeschooling is that you can turn just about anything into a learning opportunity. Cooking and baking in the kitchen with your kids is an especially great way to teach science, math and everyday life skills. You don't even have to plan what you are going to teach! Just get started in the kitchen and see what happens. You never know what you and your kids will learn.

We had just such a surprise learning opportunity while reviewing Slammers Snacks. My kids asked if they could use our spherical ice cube mold to make frozen pops with them. What a great idea! But, it turned out not to be as easy as they first thought. Instead, it turned into a problem-solving science lesson! How? Well, filling the mold with a viscous liquid through a tiny hole was a challenge, initially. After some experimentation though, the kids figured out that in order to fill the spheres, they would need to "burp" the air out. Why? Because air takes up space! BAM! Science for the day, DONE!

After filling the ice mold, and sticking it in the freezer, the kids enjoyed a super healthy Slammers Snack pouch at room temperature. All of Slammers flavors are an organic blend of anti-oxidant rich superfoods. I also like that they have no added sugars or artificial flavors and are GMO-free! Two flavors (Watermelon Kiwi Burst and Grape Pomegranate Crush) even have 7 grams of protein! This is great news when you have a picky eater in the family as we do!

All you need to make frozen pops are Slammers Snacks, an ice cube tray or mold, and something to use as pop sticks!

The next day, we took the tray out of the freezer and our Slammers ice pops turned out perfectly! A yummy treat for a warm day. We are looking forward to making even more of these this Summer.

You can find lots of other ideas and recipes using Slammers Snacks on their website. Next time, we'd like to try this muffin recipe.

One happy kiddo, with a homemade Slammers Snacks ice pop!
