Last Thursday marked three business days from when I had gotten my COVID-19 test. The nurse had explained to me that if it was positive I would find out in 3-4 business days and if it was negative it might take a little longer. So when I saw that I missed a call from the nurse Thursday morning and she did not leave the results on the voicemail, I panicked! Not only had I missed this super important call, but I also found out the office was going to be closed the next day for Easter weekend. Super Panic City! Understandably, I started calling. I started messaging on Facebook. I grumped and griped and snapped at my babies. I couldn't focus on anything else. I just didn't want to spend three more days separated from my family and wondering if I really had the virus or not! Thankfully, they returned my messages before the end of the day, and YAY, the result was negative! Tears of joy and relief flowed. I've never spent that much time with my family unable to give or receive hugs and kisses! On top of the usual social distancing, it was torture! My heart goes out to those who have tested positive and especially those in the hospital. The social isolation is horrible.

Let me move on to a happier topic. Yesterday, I had one of my proudest mom moments ever, with my eleven-year-old, Evan. He was pestering me to set up the new volleyball net the Easter Bunny brought over the weekend. If you've ever tried to interpret hieroglyphic instructions and attempt this feat, you already know I was having anxiety over it. Evan was finished with school work and bored, but my youngest wasn't, so I needed to continue helping him. Exasperated, I told Evan to take the set outside and get it ready and then, when I was finished, I would help him put it up. Next thing I knew, he was running in to tell me he had set it up all by himself. He had even figured out how to put the support lines up on one side so that when he raised the net, it wouldn't automatically fall over. I was SO IMPRESSED! Especially, because like his dear old mom, Evan suffers from ADHD. That means he is often easily frustrated and has a hard time dealing with the consequences of that. Reading directions, examining the yard, deciding the best placement, interpreting directions, putting everything together, problem-solving, finishing a project from start to finish... I'd say that is a pretty good homeschool day!
So proud of Evan for installing the new volleyball net entirely by himself! |
