Happy St. Patrick's Day in Bizarro World!

A Note From Your Publisher

By Jess Searcy March 17, 2020

Yesterday our librarian called to tell me she had a book on hold for me and that, if I called ahead, I could come and pick it up through the book drop. "Ironically," she said, "it's a book called Do Not Lick This Book!" Yeah. It's a book about microbes for my kids, one of whom is pretty terrified about this whole virus thing. I'm trying to help them learn about it as much as we can to help alleviate fears. As I peeked in at her smiling face through the narrow slot, we joked about how truly "bizarro world" all of this is. Definitely something we will all remember for the rest of our lives!

I am heartened with all the myriad ways people and businesses are getting creative in helping us all through this time of what could be despair and isolation. Tons of spreadsheets filled with activities, virtual field trips, free learning resources, etc. are being passed around on social media and some event hosts are holding live, virtual events online! Yesterday, we watched two marine scientists struggle to manage their VERY enthusiastic young daughter while they taught us all about their orca whale research. It was awesome!

I will try to mark events on the calendar that have been turned into virtual events, and am planning on putting together a guide filled with fun things to do at home, since our usual Spring and Egg Hunt Guide is on hold at the moment.

Thank You to Shaggy Chic Pet Grooming in Alabaster for making Eliza's day!
