From Your Publisher: Info on Birmingham Area Event Cancellations

Coronavirus means the situation is changing quickly

By Jess Searcy March 17, 2020

This is an uncertain time, and things seem to be changing by the day -- if not the hour -- with coronavirus and the reaction to it as health officials and the government try to slow its spread.

I think it's safe to say that most South Birmingham events are being canceled or postponed or, if they aren't, that we shouldn't be going to them. I have decided it will take too much time to mark or remove so many events, so what is already on the calendar will remain. With that in mind, be aware, we always recommend verifying event details with the venue before you attend, and it is especially important to do so right now as South Birmingham events may be canceled with little to no notice.

HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS! Be on the lookout for LIVE and VIRTUAL events added to the calendar, as many local venues are adapting and getting creative with events to help people get through this. I will try to mark and add as many of those events as possible to help you keep your kiddos entertained.

If you hear of any VIRTUAL OR LIVESTREAMING LOCAL EVENTS not yet listed on the Macaroni Kid South Birmingham events calendar, please reach out to me at jesssearcy@macaronikid.com or on our Facebook page and I will update the calendar asap. I will also be sharing other virtual events and resources on our Facebook page.

Please watch the CDC, the Alabama Department of Health, and the Shelby and Jefferson County Health Departments for the latest news.

And, of course, please take care of yourselves and your family. (But leave some toilet paper for the rest of us.)
