Half the School Year is Almost Over and Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK!

A Note From Your Publisher

By Jess Searcy November 19, 2019

Next week is already Thanksgiving?! How in the world did we get here, to the middle of the school year, so fast? As a homeschooling mom, I have to say I understand the pressure teachers feel to get things done and cover enough content in the classroom. I can't imagine feeling that pressure times 25-30 kids! Yikes! Kudos to all our educators out there! We are having a tremendous amount of fun though. At least, I am anyway. If I didn't homeschool my kids, I wouldn't have any excuse to spend an hour coloring, or sipping hot tea, while listening to Harry Potter, or reading myths and legends from around the world all morning, or learn about the latest discoveries in Egyptian archaeology. It's GLORIOUS! The kids would still rather be outside jumping on the trampoline or playing Fortnite, but we do have a LOT of fun. Cramming in all the necessary math facts and writing instruction, that's the hard part!

I just have to trust the process. Isn't that we (parents) all have to do, really? Trust the process.

They will learn everything they need to know, eventually. Kids are learning all the time. Even a hike in Oak Mountain State Park over the weekend turned into physics and biology lessons. I didn't even have to plan anything. In the picture below, Evan is testing how many rocks the giant Shingle Oak leaves will float. First, the guys wanted to identify what kind of trees the giant leaves they were finding were from. Then they started playing with them. Floating things on them. Sending them down the stream. Throwing them to see how far they would go. Lots and lots of physics!

Next time you go for a hike, or watch your kids playing outside, see if you can identify what subjects they are teaching themselves! And trust the process.

Have a great week! There are tons of holiday events starting to show up in the community and we are adding them to the Mac Kid calendar as fast as we can!

I think the leaf held four rocks before it finally sank. Pretty impressive!
