Birmingham Children’s Theatre (BCT) is thrilled to be opening the MainStage season with a show that carries so much significance not just in our hometown of Birmingham, but resonates through history and into today with themes of perseverance and strength through difficult times.
Ten-year-old Kenny chronicles the events of a fateful summer for the Watsons as the family piles into their “Brown Bomber” and heads to Birmingham, only to find themselves caught up in the tragic bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church. Christopher Paul Curtis's Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award–winning book comes to life with the beloved story of a family’s bond and endurance amidst one of the darkest periods in America’s history.
