The Alabama State Parks and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries divisions have teamed up to host the first Outdoor Alabama Experience weekend workshop at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. The workshop will take place September 20-22, 2019. Registration is currently open for the event. To register, visit www.alapark.com/outdoor-family.
The Outdoor Alabama Experience program is designed for families with any level of outdoors experience. The workshop features hands-on learning in a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, biking, wildlife watching, shooting sports, fishing, hunting, paddleboarding and more.
“The Outdoor Alabama Experience is a weekend full of opportunities for families to learn about the many ways they can enjoy Alabama's beautiful outdoors together,” said Emily Vanderford, State Parks Natural Resources Planner. “Our hope is that they leave the workshop with the confidence and information needed to continue enjoying these outdoor activities in the future.”
The registration fee is $100 for two people and $25 for each additional participant. The registration fee includes all meals, participant t-shirts and weekend instruction. Overnight accommodations are not included in the registration cost. However, workshop participants will receive a discount code for camping at Oak Mountain State Park once they have registered.
“Whether your family members are experienced campers or have never camped before, knowledgeable staff will be available to help with campsite setup or any other questions you may have,” Vanderford said. “You may also choose to stay in other park accommodations or at accommodations outside of the park.”
