Pop culture, Sci-Fi, Gaming, Cosplay, Fantasy... everything from Harry Potter to Star Wars to super heroes, the Magic City Con is back again this summer from June 21st - 23rd, 2019, and Macaroni Kid South Birmingham Readers are getting a special discount!

The organizers of Magic City Con do an amazing job of making sure the youngest of convention geeks have the best time. We know, because we've been there! Two years ago, Cole (age 6 at the time) and I went to KidCon to do a little investigative reporting. He was trained as a Dark Jedi Sith, rubbed elbows with some of his favorite fictional characters (a photo opp with his con twinsie... a full-sized Kylo Ren), and battled me for victory in the gaming lounge. Here's what's happening this year! Note pre-registration is highly recommended for many of these events. Register online from the KidCon page. (From the Magic City Con website)
- Kids Market - Kid Entrepreneurs Ages 7 - 14 are invited to participate. Come and see what kids have to offer at their very own market, and maybe collect some good ideas along the way.
- Fortnite Danceoff - Orange Justice, Floss, Electro Shuffle, or the Worm... which moves will you break out first?! Come prepared to face your opponent and compete to WIN First Place in our Fortnite Dance Off! There will be participation prizes, so get ready to boogie down!
- The Royal Manticoran Navy Nerf Wars - Bring your Nerf Guns and Ammo and get ready for a Nerf War! Capture the Flag, Attack and Defend, Deathmatch, Duel, and so many more matches will take place! We will have two versions of Nerf Wars throughout the weekend of Magic City Con - one that will take place during KidCon hours, and various matches scheduled throughout the weekend. ALL ages are welcome at ALL matches! We will have extra Nerf Guns and Ammo that you may borrow if you don't have your own - however, we strongly encourage you to bring yours since our supplies are limited!
- Star Wars Galaxy Training - It's the return of one of our most anitipated KidCon activities each year... Star Wars Galaxy Training! Your child can choose who they would like to train with! Will they choose the light side and train with the Jedi, the dark side and train with the Empire, or become a bounty hunter and train with the Mandalorians? Decisions... Decisions...
- Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - Another one of our most anitipated KidCon activities each year returns bigger and better than before! Board the Hogwarts Express at Platform 9 3/4 and be prepared for a morning full of all the wizardry fun you can handle! After a full run of classes at Hogwarts, relax with a cup of Butterbeer and unwind!
- Robotics 101 Workshop - $50 for ages 8+ (All of the funds for this workshop will be donated to Children's of Alabama and Vulcan ESports to support local children.) Robots are cool. Just ask your kids! Have they - or lets be honest, you - always wanted to learn about robotics, but don't know where to start? Well say no more! For this low cost, you can attend a one hour intro to robotics workshop AND walk away with a robot of your very own! You and/or your kids will learn how simple it is to make a program which can help them with their jobs in the future... plus it's a lot of fun!
- Mandalorian Mercs Sunday Breakfast - This event is limited to the first 50 children that submit a form. Once space is filled, the form will not appear on the website any longer. This event is INCLUDED with a Kid's Weekend Pass purchase, and parents may purchase a Breakfast ticket for an additional $5 fee.

Character Pen Pals - Write your favorite character!
This is something your kids can do even if you can't make it to Magic City Con this year. Sneak a little summer hand writing practice by having your kids write to someone special.
From Magic City Con website: It's that time of the year again! When the Season brings many holidays and celebrations... one could say it's the most magical time of the year! We at Magic City Con like to celebrate the season by offering our wee geeks the chance to write to their favorite character! It could be anyone... from Santa Claus to Harley Quinn, Deadpool to Grumpy Cat, our heroes have answered letters received from children all over the world this past year and they are ready to do it all over again!
Simply have your child write a letter or draw a picture to their favorite character and they will receive one in return!
