My Kids are Going to "School" for Spring Break - Yay for Art Camp!

A Note From Your Publisher

By Jess Searcy March 19, 2019

We had a mini Winter break back in February so I wanted to keep the kids in school next week for our district's Spring break (we are homeschoolers). However, it is virtually impossible to do that without total mutiny in the house. Of course, the guys know when all the other kids are out of school, so they think they should be out too. My solution? ART CAMP! We don't do as much art as I'd like in our homeschooling (though they are constantly drawing), so I'm excited for them to learn some new techniques and be exposed to some new media at the Art Studio of Calera. If you're looking for a last minute Spring break option, check out what they have going on... maybe there are still some spots left. They also have lots of Summer camp options available.

Going back to the subject of school, we are studying prehistory right now and, I have to say, it has been the most fun we've had yet! We are reading dinosaurs, drawing dinosaurs, watching dinosaurs. I was always sad that the guys never went through a dinosaur phase when they were little, so I guess I'm making up for lost time. I LOVE them! We're even hatching and raising some living fossils from the Triassic period, called Triops. They are kind of like sea monkeys, but look more like trilobites. We saw our first tiny hatchlings today!

Did you have a good St. Patrick's Day weekend? I read a spot on article about how we are kinda getting a little carried away with holidays these days, and the pressure for parents to make things perfectly magical for every single one is even crazier. I totally agree! I mean St. Patrick's Day when we were kids was wearing something green, and now it is leprechaun traps and gold dust and rainbow everything. I'll be sure to share that on Facebook sometime this week.

Happy Birthday to my Dad, who turns 81 this week! We love you Papa!
