On September 15, 2018, Macaroni Kid Publishers across the country will be celebrating Macaroni Kid Act of Kindness Day (#MKAOKDay). MK-AOK Day is an extension of Macaroni Kid’s core mission to enrich the communities in which we live. Through this very special day, we aim to inspire all Macaroni Kid Publishers to take the lead and encourage families to work together to do good and spread joy through acts of kindness, both big and small. And we want to inspire you too!
While MK-AOK Day is about giving back to our communities, giving and kindness begin right at home. It's easy to get caught up in the daily grind -- the sports and activities schedules, appointments, meetings, and homework and forget about being kind to each other. Oftentimes though, when you make an effort to model kindness for your children, they will begin to show kindness as well. I see this with my children when I put compliment hearts on their doors every Valentine’s Day and then they also make hearts for my door.
Here are some easy ways to model kindness at home:
- Tuck a surprise love note in your child's lunchbox
- Leave a surprise love note from your child in your spouse's lunchbox/workbag
- Surprise your child with his or her favorite treat
- Let your child choose the dinner menu
- Make your child a compliment collage
- Stop everything you’re doing and give your kid a hug or snuggle
- Hug and kiss your spouse as soon as they walk in the door after work-even if you’re cooking dinner
