Pick Up Ice Cream Treats for Summer with Walmart Online Grocery Pickup

Sponsored Macaroni Kid Review

By Jess Searcy May 23, 2018

It is the last week of school and just like everyone else, we are scrambling to get those last minute items checked off our to-do list before the kids get out.  I would LOVE to surprise the kids with some ice cream treats to start the summer off right, but how am I going to find time to add "grocery store," to my already full list?  Walmart Online Grocery Pickup to the rescue!

I've heard all about how easy it is to order online and pick up groceries at Walmart from friends, but, believe it or not, I have never tried it!  Let's try it together and see just how easy it really is.  Do you think that ice cream is going to make it home still frozen?  Let's find out!

Step 1 - Create an account at Walmart Grocery.

Step 2 - Search for the items you want by typing the name in the search bar.  Select the ones you want, which will appear in your cart on the right hand side.  I'm going to try some treats we've never had before. How about some Magnum® Milk Chocolate Hazelnut Ice Cream for me, some Breyers® 2in1 Heath/Waffle Cone Ice Cream for the hubs and some Klondike® Bars for the guys.  That will give us a variety of sizes of products to see which ones make it home frozen good and solid.

Here, I've typed "klondike bars" into the search bar and then picked two flavors to add to my cart.

Step 3 - Add more items until your cart reaches the $30 minimum.  Alright, let's go ahead and plan some meals and check another item off our to-do list!  It's always nice to have a few dinners planned out in advance for the week!  Especially busy ones!

Step 4 - Reserve pickup time.  Looks like we can choose the closest store, or change the location.  Then, we just choose a convenient time to pickup the order.  I've chosen tomorrow at 1 pm, while the kids are in school.

I got online on a Sunday around noon and the only same day pickup time left was 7 pm - 8 pm (must be a really popular day!). However, Monday was wide open all day.

Step 4 - Confirm the order and enter/select payment. I noticed there is a spot for a promo code on this page, and whenever I notice that, I ALWAYS try to find one.  I mean who doesn't want to save some cash for 30 seconds worth of "googling." So I googled "walmart grocery coupon code," and found a code to try right away.  I'm going to save you the effort.  Try WOWFRESH, it gave me $10 off my first order!

Awesome! I found a promo code and saved ten bucks!

Step 5 - Wait for the email saying "Your Order is Ready for Pickup!"  Then, you can either call your store using the number in the email, or download the Walmart Grocery App and "check-in," to let them know you are on your way.

Step 6 - Drive to the store, and a service employee will bring your groceries to your car.  Check out our video review of how the whole thing went down.

Step 7 - Enjoy your extra hour of free time doing something besides grocery shopping!  It literally took THREE MINUTES for me to drive into the parking lot at the Walmart Neighborhood Market, park my car and get my groceries!  This saved me at least an hour and I didn't have to do something I greatly dislike doing!

Besides trying out the Walmart Online Grocery Pick Up process, we also wanted to test out whether ordering frozen foods, like ice cream would be a problem.  Would our ice cream make it home nice and cold?  I ordered a variety of sizes to find out.  As you can see in this photo, the small ice cream tub is still solid and frosty on the outside.  In the video, you can see even the bars are solid!  I'm thinking that getting ice cream this way is even better than going to the store myself for keeping everything cold.

Klondike bars for the win!  I've got two happy kiddos happy with their surprise after school treats! And btw, If you are a chocolate/peanut butter fan, the Klondike Reeses Peanut Butter bars are sooooooooooo good. I haven't even had a chance to try the other things we bought, because all I want to do is eat all the Klondike bars!

Walmart Online Grocery Pick Up was definitely a convenient way for me to pick up some end of the school year ice cream treats.  Over the summer, it will be a great way to pick up more treats, without having to drag everyone into the store.  We'll just order and go! Thanks to Walmart for offering this awesome, FREE service!
