Time to Talk About Sleep with Natrol in the Purple Bottle

Tips and a Melatonin Review for Sleep Awareness Month

By Jess Searcy March 9, 2018

I had a rough start to this week, with a couple nights of sleeplessness, and with Daylight Savings Time looming for the weekend, things at our house were about to get ugly.  When Mama Bear gets cranky, everyone suffers.  Intervention needed! Thank goodness, Natrol, in the purple bottle, was on the way to the rescue!

I have tried melatonin supplements in the past, to help with occasional sleeplessness, so I was eager to try out a new brand, and find out what makes it different from the others.  My bad habit of going to bed too late needed some attention, so for three nights in a row, I added Natrol to my sleep routine.

The first thing I noticed upon opening the bottle was a delicious, strawberry smell.  This brand comes in a quick-dissolve, strawberry flavored tablet.  No water needed and tastes good!  That makes it really convenient to keep on the night stand, for when you find yourself struggling to fall asleep and don't want to wake yourself up further by getting out of bed again.  According to Natrol, the quick-dissolve form makes it faster to absorb as well.

Natrol's quick-dissolve form has a great strawberry flavor and allows for faster absorption.

Natrol definitely helped me fall asleep faster, despite my usual, late-night habit.  The first night taking Natrol, I was able to get to sleep a full hour earlier than normal.  And by the third night, I could tell my rhythms were adjusting because I fell asleep at 9 pm, while putting my eldest kiddo to bed!  As an experienced mama, I know how Day Light Savings can wreak havoc on everyone's sleep health.  It will be a rough week adjusting to the time change next week, but now maybe Mama Bear will be more Mama and less Bear!

I also appreciate the fact that Natrol is 100% drug-free too.  In the mornings, I have awakened feeling refreshed, and ready to start my day.  I will definitely keep adding Natrol to my sleep routine while we adjust to the time change.  And for the next time sleeplessness rears its ugly head, I'm glad I will have Natrol in my toolkit.  If you want to try it for yourself, look for the purple bottle.

More tips from Natrol for Sleep Awareness Month to help adjust sleep patterns during Daylight Savings Time:

  • Get Some Sun: Sunlight causes your brain to stop producing melatonin-the body’s sleep hormone-and start producing serotonin, your body’s wake up drug. A good dose of sunlight will help you wake up and reset your body’s clock.
  • Exercise: Studies show exercise helps us sleep longer and better. Exercise raises your body temperature and kick starts oxytocin production early so you’re more alert-even after you’ve lost sleep. Exercising in the morning can help reset your body’s clock so you’re sleepier at bedtime.
  • Careful with Caffeine: Caffeine can definitely get you going, and you’re probably going to need it more after losing sleep. However, it’s effects can linger in your body for up to six hours. So, be careful with that cup of coffee or you may be up half the night.
  • Wind down Early: When your mind, body and bedtime aren’t in sync, you need to give yourself more time to slow down and get ready for sleep. Destress with meditation, gentle yoga or tai-chi so your mind is clear when it’s time for bed.
  • Put a cork in it: Alcohol makes you drowsy, but it can degrade the quality of your sleep. Go easy on the vino and dine on sleep-friendly foods like sweet potatoes, turkey and broccoli.
  • Power Down: Screens flood your brain with the same serotonin-inducing light as the sun that wakes you up in the morning. Turn them off so your brain can start creating melatonin.
  • Take Natrol Melatonin: Safe, effective and 100% drug-free Natrol Melatonin can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer, so your body can catch up on that lost hour. Take it about twenty minutes before bedtime for the maximum benefit.
