This is turning out to be one of the more difficult articles I've ever written. I'm baring my soul here people. Well... not really... but I *AM* showing you pictures of some of the most disgusting corners of my house. And that is kind of the same thing. You will judge me. You will say "EWW" out loud. I can already hear it. Some of you may never look me in the eye or allow your children to step foot across my threshold ever again. But some of you (maybe even most of you) will hold up a flame of solidarity. And for you, I write. For my fellow hot-mess mamas. So here it is y'all.
I could tell you what I told Sheena Chapple (left in above picture) and Kayla Williamson, when they came to my rescue last Tuesday. That working from home, while the kids are also home, is *so hard* (be sure to read this in a whiny voice). During the summer, it was all I could do to get my Mac Kid tasks done, manage the kids and have dinner on the table everyday. And while there IS a great deal of truth to that, the fact is we are all slobs and I hate to clean. There, I said it.
When my second son was born, my parents paid for house cleaning services for a month or so after. That was, hands down, the *ultimate* BEST newborn baby present EV.er. Since then, I've dreamed of the day when I could hire someone to clean my house on a regular basis. Honestly, one of my main reasons for going back to work, now that the kids are both in school, is that I wanted something to keep me too busy to clean the house. That was excuse step one. Step two, was bringing in enough extra income to hire somebody else to do it for me.
That day has finally come. Enter MY HEROES... MaidPro of Birmingham. A small, locally owned business with great reviews on google. I gave them a call and got a quote for services right over the phone! Super easy. Second, we scheduled that first clean, which would be a deep-clean, and would take longer to do than following cleans.
Ok get ready. Since I knew I would be writing this review for you, I had a great reason to ignore the filth piling up around our house even more than usual. After all, I had to really challenge MaidPro right? What good is a review if you can't tell what a stellar job they did? So, here are the before and after pictures. I started to label them "before" and "after," but then I realized how stupid that was. You are, after all, intelligent people. See for yourself.
On top of our dresser, we had a very large dust-bunny living. His name was George. RIP George.
The murky corners of our master bedroom shower. My six year old likes to sit in the shower. Now I won't be having convulsions when he does that.
The kids' sink is not *supposed* to be SPECKLED?! Preposterous!
Um. Wow. I *really* don't like to dust apparently.
When searching for the grossest corners of my house to photograph I discovered a lovely dried up milk spill all over the bottom of our breakfast room table. I didn't know if MaidPro cleaned furniture or not, but I took a pic just in case. And voila! Milk spill gone! Here's one of our lovely mess-makers. Tuna enjoys hanging out where there's a chance he might throw up.
We don't use the microwave that much. *cough*
Ok. Now that's just gross. This is the sink under the sink drying rack thingy that lives in it. So all our clean dishes normally hover millimeters over this science project. MaidPro to the rescue! Look how shiny!
Would you believe me if I told you that I wanted to study all the different species of mold and fungi I could grow in my bathroom sink before MaidPro came to visit? I mean, I AM a former biologist. I thought maybe if I got a sufficiently diverse biofilm growing, the sink would start cleaning itself. You don't believe me? Well you're no fun.
So there you go. And the BEST thing is that this past weekend, instead of catching up on the worst chores that absolutely had to be done in order to prevent child services from knocking on the door, I got to do something I've been dying to do for months. I whipped out my sewing machine and finally put together a tooth pillow for Cole who has a loose tooth! So MaidPro gave me the gift of GUILT-FREE TIME WITH MY KIDS. That is priceless.
And guess what? Turns out Fall is the perfect time to get the house deep-cleaned. With the kids home all summer, not to mention three cats and a giant, furry Pyrenees mix adding to the filth, forget Spring cleaning! Fall is where it's at in my opinion.
Sheena and Kayla did an amazing job. I was so impressed too, when a third staffer showed up to do a quality control check and ended up jumping in to help. It was taking them longer than anticipated, because it was THAT bad y'all. All super friendly and professional. And check out the 49-point checklist they follow too at the end of this article. We even got a call a few days later just to check in and see if we were satisfied with the job. And if you ever aren't, they have a "re-clean" guarantee where they will come back and re-clean at no charge.
I wish we could afford to have them come EVERY week! But one thing I love is that MaidPro will totally work with your budget and you can leave a prioritized list of things or rooms for them to do. So we are able to have them come often enough to take care of those chores that really need doing. That is awesome.
Ready to try them on for size? They've got a great special going on right now! Please tell them you heard about them from Macaroni Kid. Call for a free quote (205) 358-1800 and show them some love on Facebook HERE.
