Permanent Marker Tie Dye Shirts

By Jenna Slade - Macaroni Kid Saugerties-Catskill-Hudson-Rhinebeck August 1, 2017

My girls were so excited when their grandma came to visit and brought a craft for them to do! Permanent Marker Tie Dye Shirts! They were so easy to make too!

What do you need?

  • Permanent markers
  • White T-shirts
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Spray bottle for alcohol
  • Plastic cups
  • Rubber bands
  • Sunshine! (Not required, but helpful! A clothes dryer will also work for quick results!)

What do you do?

1. Help the kids attach the cups to the shirt with rubber bands. Use as many as you can fit inside the shirt, open end on the shirt and place a rubber band tightly around the shirt on the outside.

2. Color away! Make cool designs, squiggles, "fireworks", swirls... or anything you want!

3. After you are done coloring, spray the circles with the alcohol.

4. Once all the circles on all the shirts are sprayed, you can leave them outside in the sun to dry! On a nice hot day, this shouldn't take too long!

They come out awesome and the kids love knowing they made them (almost) by themselves! This was a fun and easy craft. The hardest part will be finding shirts in the size you want!
